Stained Glass: Gift Boxes

A number of years back, Barbara bought a stained glass gift box at one of the many craft fairs she attended as Sharon’s sidekick/helper.

It really was quite a lovely piece. And, had a string of lights inside to add that extra touch at Christmas time.

Unfortunately as nice as the photo above is, it doesn’t really show you the bow on top of the box. Expect that was a bit of work. So, here’s a shot providing a decent look at the bow.

The last time Larry saw it, he had once again started doing some stained glass work (one of many hobbies and skills). He liked the concept and asked if he could borrow it. He was going to try and make one. Or two or three or…

The long and the short of it is that Larry worked on a box for Taffy. Took a bit of time and lot of trial and error. But, it came out rather well. So well in fact that he made a few more. Two each for Taffy and Barbara. Here’s a shot of the three he made for Taffy.

This is what Taffy had to say when she sent us the photo below. Sounds like she may have been quoting Larry.

Now this was exciting - bottom slides out so you can put miniature lights inside! Cutting the glass accurately and learning to solder took some time. Used aircraft cable for rings but not easy because of its springiness - solder it into a ring and if you get it too hot while soldering to the top - boiiiing! It pops apart. So going to make a couple more of these - one shorter and one squatter and wider.

I thought I had more photos on hand, but apparently not. Will work on that.
